An Interesting Proposition For Photographers

Over at The Online Photographer, TOP, Mike Johnston has posted an interesting proposition for photographers. I'm not going to explain it here but if you want to know what he is suggesting then go over to the TOP site and see for yourself.

For me it's a project that I've been turning over in my head your the last couple of months. Trouble is I don't live in the Coachella Valley and that's where my special project would be. Specifically along the 111 Highway.

The photo above shows a mall in downtown Palm Springs being torn down so something just as silly can be erected. To the left of the old mall is a hotel. It stays.

Makes No Sense At All

Another photo from the car window. In this case I can't figure out what I photographed or my reason for doing so.

Still it makes no sense to me. You?

This is the power of cropping. Eliminate enough at the borders of a picture and all reference to it's reality is gone.

It's the intersection just before the entrance to the Cliff House. At least I think it is.

And again it's on Hwy 111 in the Coachella Valley.

City Of Coachella

It's in the valley somewhere. I think it's just south of Indio.

Thinking hasn't been my strong suit this week. Even had problems getting a replacement mop head installed.

Hwy 111 In The Coachella Valley

Photographing out of the car window is sometimes the only way to get the picture. This photo was taken while driving, not me, along Hwy 111 in the Coachella Valley. Not Palm Springs and not Indio but somewhere in between.

The idea of driving and taking photos is not new. But there is no way I would drive and take photos. And it sure is a lot more fun when you have no worries like rear ending a BMW. Although that wouldn't upset me too much.

Another View From US 10 Rest Stop

I always stop here to get a photo. It rarely is the same scene.

Stop sometime and give it a try. It's on US 10 just east of the Highway 111 turn-off.
