The New View: Decisions

The view at Main Beach, in Laguna Beach, changed this past Fall with the addition of temporary structures for restrooms and the Lifeguard headquarters.

So begins my search for views that have changed at Main Beach because of the construction work on the new Lifeguard headquarters and restrooms. Some are obvious and others not so.

The two here were taken Wednesday and when I saw the scene I originally composed for the upper photo but as I turned to walk on I noticed the second scene with the lamp post. The post and the large sign seemed to mimic the basketball stand. And an added bonus was the hole next to the lamp post. What was that about? We'll never know.

Which photo should be included in the New View series? The upper photo is more truthful, I think, to the theme but the lower photo seems to add an extra dimension and the humor of the hole either adds, or distracts, to the scene.

The building on the right is the office for the construction company and the one behind the basketball courts is the temporary restrooms.

New View - From Restroom Ramp

Looks like the old view but I'm able to get a higher view point. Approximately another 4 feet above the boardwalk. I'm standing on the ramp to the temporary restrooms. I'll show the restrooms next.

Having pigeons sitting over the boardwalk is not my idea of fun. The pigeons will love it.

Laguna Beach is putting up a new Lifeguard Headquarters at Main Beach. The construction has modified the view at Main Beach with all the temporary buildings and communication cables hanging over the boardwalk.

Suzie Starbuck

This is an experiment. Here at the beach it has been overcast like this for too many days. So while down at the beach today I was trying to come up with something a little different. Enter Suzie Starbuck.

Has anyone else noticed that if you want to be on one of the big sites you need a gimmick. So Suzie Starbuck it just one on the ideas I was fooling around with down at Main Beach, Laguna Beach, Ca.

Problem One: I need the cup in focus. For some it doesn't matter but for me it will always matter. Do I need to keep the cup level with the horizon?

Problem Two. Do I want Suzie Starbuck coming in from all sides of the frame or just the bottom? Worth trying.

Problem Three: Need to determine the smallest f-stop for complete sharpness. Along with that I need to determine what focal length I want to use and use that focal length for all Suzie Starbuck images.

Gray Sky In Laguna. But Wait There's More.

I'm back in Laguna Beach after spending 5 days in Indio, CA. Went from really, really blue skies to so, so sky in Laguna. Went from 70's and 80s in Indio to 60s in Laguna.

But in Laguna if you wait long enough you will get plenty of sunshine. That's happening right now as I write this post.

I didn't take any photos all weekend and I'm really eager to get back to it.
