Laguna Beach Strand

I've started to call all the beach that is south of Laguna Beach's Main Beach and north of Wood's Cove the Strand.

Much of it lies below the section of PCH I've name Up-Town.  The center of Up-Town is Cress St and PCH. With the Casa Del Camino Hotel it's main attraction.

Definition: Strand: noun. The land bordering the sea, a lake, or a river; shore; beach.

Close enough.

The New View: Decisions

The view at Main Beach, in Laguna Beach, changed this past Fall with the addition of temporary structures for restrooms and the Lifeguard headquarters.

So begins my search for views that have changed at Main Beach because of the construction work on the new Lifeguard headquarters and restrooms. Some are obvious and others not so.

The two here were taken Wednesday and when I saw the scene I originally composed for the upper photo but as I turned to walk on I noticed the second scene with the lamp post. The post and the large sign seemed to mimic the basketball stand. And an added bonus was the hole next to the lamp post. What was that about? We'll never know.

Which photo should be included in the New View series? The upper photo is more truthful, I think, to the theme but the lower photo seems to add an extra dimension and the humor of the hole either adds, or distracts, to the scene.

The building on the right is the office for the construction company and the one behind the basketball courts is the temporary restrooms.

Plein Air Painters In Laguna Beach

Some of the best Plein Air painters in the country will be competing in the Plein Air Painting Invitational in Laguna Beach all week starting October 14. That's tomorrow. If you've ever needed a reason to visit Laguna Beach you have one now. You have the chance to watch the painters in action and some, but not all, welcome questions.

It looks like it's going to be a very nice week of weather for the artists and YOU.

Looks like the old view but I'm able to get a higher view point. Approximately another 4 feet above the boardwalk. I'm standing on the ramp to the temporary restrooms. I'll show the restrooms next.
